Uli Hoeneß backs Michael Olise to become the world’s best as Bayern dismiss €300 million transfer talk
Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß has made his position clear on Michael Olise: the French winger is a central part of the club’s plans, and Bayern are in no hurry to consider a transfer. Hoeneß has also offered a bold assessment of Olise’s ability, saying he rates the forward above Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal.
Speculation about Olise’s future has grown as his performances have attracted attention across European football. Reports during the World Cup period linked him with Real Madrid and suggested a possible fee of around €300 million. Hoeneß dismissed the rumours as “all nonsense,” pointing to the player’s long-term contract and Bayern’s confidence in keeping him.
Bayern are relaxed about Olise’s future
Olise is contracted to Bayern until 30 June 2029, giving the German club a strong position in any discussion about his future. Asked by Welt am Sonntag whether he could leave, Hoeneß said Bayern were not currently considering that possibility.
“Michael has a contract with us until 30 June 2029. That’s why we’re not giving it any thought right now,” Hoeneß said. His response reflects a straightforward point in the transfer market: a player with several years remaining on his deal cannot simply be taken from his club without Bayern’s agreement.
The reported €300 million figure has added drama to the story, but it remains speculation rather than a confirmed offer. A transfer at that level would rank among the most extraordinary deals in football history. For now, Bayern’s public message is that Olise is under contract, valued by the club and not being actively offered for sale.
Contract extension talks can wait
Former Bayern captain Lothar Matthäus has urged the club to move quickly and extend Olise’s contract. Hoeneß, however, sees no need for an immediate negotiation. He said Bayern would speak with the player during the season to find out whether he is interested in extending his stay.
If Olise is not ready to commit to a new deal, Hoeneß indicated that the club would be prepared to wait. “If he doesn’t want to yet, we’ll just wait and see what happens in 2029. I’m not worried at all,” he said.
That approach suggests Bayern believe their existing contract provides sufficient security. It also leaves room for Olise to focus on football rather than being drawn into prolonged public discussions about his next move. A new agreement would likely include improved terms, but Hoeneß said the club has not yet decided what a possible pay rise might look like.
“I don’t see us under any pressure at all. We’ll think about that when the time comes,” he added. Bayern’s position is therefore one of patience: assess the situation during the season, talk with the player and avoid making financial decisions before they are necessary.
Hoeneß compares Olise with Lamine Yamal
Hoeneß was even more emphatic when asked to compare Olise with Yamal, Barcelona’s highly celebrated young attacker. While the two players have different profiles and operate in different tactical settings, the Bayern figure said he currently rates Olise higher.
“The lad brings us a lot of joy. For me, he is well on his way to becoming the best player in the world,” Hoeneß said. He described Olise as “incredibly consistent” and added that, in his view, the Frenchman is better than Yamal.
Hoeneß pointed to Olise’s all-round contribution as a major reason for his assessment. The winger can score, create chances for teammates and use his pace to stretch defensive lines. That combination makes him valuable not only as a finisher but also as a creator who can change the shape of an attack.
Comparisons between elite players are inevitably subjective. Yamal has earned recognition for his creativity, close control and influence at a remarkably young age, while Olise’s case rests on his production, versatility and ability to affect matches in multiple ways. Hoeneß’s comments are best understood as a strong expression of confidence in Bayern’s own player, rather than a definitive measure of the two stars’ careers.
Why Olise matters to Bayern’s long-term plans
For Bayern, keeping a player of Olise’s quality would be about more than preventing a headline-making transfer. A reliable winger who can contribute goals and assists gives the team tactical flexibility, particularly against opponents who defend deep or press aggressively. His ability to create opportunities as well as finish them can also reduce the burden on other attacking players.
That importance helps explain why Bayern are comfortable rejecting outside speculation while avoiding an immediate contract ultimatum. The club can plan around Olise under his current deal, while future negotiations will depend on his ambitions, his role in the team and the terms both sides consider acceptable.
There is also a broader lesson in the transfer prediction surrounding the €300 million rumour. Huge figures can dominate football coverage, but they do not automatically signal that negotiations are underway. In this case, Hoeneß has publicly denied the talk and stressed that Bayern have no reason to act as though a sale is imminent.
Prediction: Bayern will prioritise stability over a transfer battle
Based on Hoeneß’s comments, the most likely short-term outcome is that Olise remains at Bayern while the club waits for the right moment to discuss an extension. The 2029 contract gives Bayern time, and their leadership appears confident that there is no immediate need to raise the stakes.
That does not rule out future interest from Real Madrid or other major clubs. If Olise continues to perform at a high level, transfer speculation is likely to return. But any serious approach would have to contend with Bayern’s firm public stance and the player’s existing contract.
For now, the headline is not a €300 million move but Bayern’s belief in Olise’s potential. Hoeneß sees a forward capable of challenging for the status of the world’s best, and he has made clear that the club intends to enjoy his contribution rather than plan for his departure.
